BENGALURU: American Airlines will launch a daily, nonstop direct service between Seattle and Bengaluru in October 2020 in the first such flight from Bengaluru to mainland US.
The service is the result of a new partnership between American Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Bookings open for the Bengaluru-Seattle flight later in the month.
Earlier, passengers from Bengaluru had to make one or two or, even, three stops — with layovers at Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok or via Europe — to reach Seattle. The new flight is expected to be a game-changer.
Fewer stops for flyers from US cities
On Thursday, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines announced a new West Coast International Alliance, which gives West Coast travellers more choices while travelling internationally.
“Beginning West Coast International Service from Seattle will complement American’s strong existing international network from Los Angeles. India is a grossly underserved market, despite the number of businesses with a major presence in both India and the West Coast. By adding Seattle to Bengaluru, we are giving customers of more than 70 US cities access to India in one stop or less versus the two, three or four stops they would have to make to get there in the past,” said Vasu Raja, American’s senior vice-president, Network Strategy.
A new route from Seattle to Heathrow in London will be launched by American in March 2021.
